Past Events

On December 5, 2015, direct descendants of J. K. Tomlinson along with other concerned community members and volunteers met and formed a new board. Since that time a small group of volunteers has worked to clean the 18-acre site, remove dead trees, brush, tires, trash and debris. The restrooms have been totally renovated, electricity restored (vandals had cut all the wires and stolen the copper), public water connected, entrance gates installed and the picnic area rebuilt and repaired.

The association has hosted 4 events since that time including Veterans Day celebrations, a Civil War battle reenactment and living history demonstration and the Buffalo Soldiers. These events include a special day for area sixth graders to come out and learn about the area’s history and meet our veterans. Community members are beginning to return to this historic treasure and enjoy events as well as renting the site for family reunions, camping and other events.

Cabin and Tabernacle Preservation and Restoration- We have done minimal stabilization work on both endangered structures. In the fall of 2017 a preservation architect and contractor assessed the structures and prepared a study outlining the work that is required. Funds are being raised to accomplish this.
